Google Merchant Center Disapproved? 6 Fixes That Get Shopping Ads Back

By Webcarely7 min read

Getting suspended from Google Merchant Center is a nightmare for e-commerce stores. Unlike Search ads, where you might lose a few leads, losing Shopping ads can instantly cut your revenue in half.

Merchant Center is incredibly strict about transparency, checkout security, and data accuracy. If your data feed doesn't match your website, or if your policies are confusing, the automated system will pull the plug.

Here are the 6 most common fixes I implement to get Merchant Center accounts reinstated.

The Golden Rule: Everything in your product data feed MUST exactly match what the user sees on the landing page. Price, availability, currency, and condition.

1. Mismatching prices and currencies

If your feed says a product is $49.99, but the landing page says $59.99, you will be suspended. This happens frequently with WooCommerce sites using dynamic pricing plugins or currency switchers.

Google crawls your site from US IP addresses. If you have an IP-based currency switcher that changes the price for the Googlebot, it will see a mismatch.

The fix

Disable auto-switching currencies based on IP. Let the user choose their currency, but ensure the default loaded URL matches the currency in your target feed.

2. Missing Return and Refund policies

Google demands that a user knows exactly how to return an item before they buy it. If you don't have a clear, dedicated Return Policy page linked in your footer and checkout, you will be suspended for "Misrepresentation."

The fix

Create a dedicated page. State exactly how many days they have to return, who pays for return shipping, and how the refund is processed. Don't copy/paste a generic template—make it accurate to your business.

3. Checkout process errors

Google runs simulated checkouts. If they cannot add an item to the cart and reach the final payment screen without an error, or if your checkout isn't fully secured with HTTPS, you will be suspended.

4. Missing contact information

You must provide at least two ways for a customer to contact you, and they must be highly visible. A contact form alone is not enough.

The fix

Put your physical business address, a phone number, and a support email address in the footer of every page.

5. Availability mismatches

If your feed says "In Stock" but the product page says "Out of Stock" (or allows backorders without clearly stating it), Google views this as a bait-and-switch.

6. Misrepresentation of self or product

This is the hardest suspension to fight because it's vague. It usually means your site looks untrustworthy. Do you have fake reviews? Countdown timers that reset on page refresh? Fake "10 people are looking at this right now" popups?

Remove all artificial scarcity plugins. Google considers them deceptive, and they will get your Merchant Center account permanently banned.

Once you fix these issues, ensure your product feed is fully updated before requesting a review.
